Objectives of the Faculty

The Faculty of Science and Technology is committed to providing high-quality education, research, and service in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The faculty’s mission is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to succeed in their chosen careers and to contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge and technological innovation.

Graduation Requirements

University regulations require that a student earns at least 180 credits to graduate with a bachelor’s degree. To graduate with a BSc in Computer Science, a student must earn at least 168 credits in Computer Science courses of which 120 must be compulsory ones. The remaining credits are obtained from designated courses in Mathematics, Physics, Business and Management Sciences to add to his or her major.

The University now requires that every student should complete and defend an end of course project before they graduate.

DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

Objectives of the Degree Program

Information has become a highly valued and priced commodity, and both its quality and timely delivery is critical in today’s information age. The department of computer and information sciences aims to graduate students in computer and information sciences who have a strong and balanced foundation in scientific theories, the practices and the uses of Information Technology in creating, storing and the timely distribution of information using computers and other related information technology.

2. Networking and Cybersecurity Equipment: Equipped with specialized equipment for networking and cybersecurity research, including routers, switches, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems.

Admission Requirements

Besides the general university admission requirements, candidates seeking to read for a BSc degree in Computer Science must have pass grades in Mathematics, and other relevant subjects such as Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Economics, at the GCE O’ Level. At the GCE A’ Level, they must possess good pass grades in at least two science subjects. A pass in Mathematics and Economics will be accepted.

DEPARTMENT OF SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

Mission and Objectives

The undergraduate program is designed to provide tools, techniques and thinking in such a way as to enable the graduates to find gainful employment in areas where Software Engineering knowledge is required and to have the adequate background necessary for the pursuit of studies and research in Software Engineering. The department, through its programs, also seeks to satisfy the evolving needs of Software Engineering enthusiasists.

Duration of Studies: Six Semesters (4 years).

The Department of Software Engineering has access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources, including:

Admission Requirements

Candidates must have passed at least 2 GCE Advanced Level subjects, one in Mathematics and the other in another science subject. The Baccalaureate series C and D are also acceptable.

The Software engineering program is conceived to produce graduates who are competent, knowledgeable and skillful and who can survive change and adapt to it. DEPARTMENT OF mICROBIOLOGY

Objectives of the Degree Program

  1. To produce microbiologists who have a strong background in .
  2. To provide theoretical and practical training aimed at enabling students acquire microbiological knowledge and techniques necessary for industries such as breweries, food processing and preservation, water works, pharmaceuticals and research institutions.
  3. To train students, where appropriate, to acquire the knowledge necessary for health care delivery especially in pathological and immunological laboratories and to monitor environmental pollution.
  4. To provide courses in Microbiology to students of other departments and other Faculties where degree options require some knowledge of the areas listed in (ii) and (iii) above.

Graduation Requirements

The minimum number of course credits required for the award of a B.Sc. degree in Microbiology is 180 credits including the general university requirements.

Employment Opportunities

A graduate with a degree in microbiology may engage in teaching; work in the paramedical field (Laboratory technologists); or take up industry-based positions in the petroleum, food processing and beer and wine manufacturing industries, as well as Environmental biotechnology. A graduate may also get into research or further his/her education to postgraduate levels for subsequent teaching and research positions in Universities and other institutions of higher learning.
